Seasons of Sorrow

Seasons of Sorrow
(a soliloquy)

Time and its passage, drifting, slipping
Beyond seasons of sorrow, jaded
And uncertain, have left her naked,
Unguarded in life's truth, its honesty.

When did she lose herself, that spirit
Dancing in rain, flying, touching sky
Tasting freedom, loving... and why
Have dreams fled, abandoned her?

Where has it all gone... her passions,
Audacious and impetuous, just living
Each moment, embracing life, giving
Little thought to reasons, to tomorrow?

Surely there is more to her than this...
A sorrowed heart, a soul, undone,
Lost in seasons of sorrow where one
Forgets how to breathe, how to be.

How she longs to feel her soul slipping
Into another season, arms of honesty
Opening, offering glimpses of the spirit
That has buoyed her, sustained her,
Remembering love and bold passions,
Restless winds chasing every tomorrow.
Sorrow still shadows her but beyond this
There is a need... a need to simply be.
