When I Was A Kid

When I was a kid I remember this
The day I caught my very first fish
Ma cooked it and put it on my dish
I ate the fish and accomplished a wish

I remember my first two wheeled bike
Santa put it by the tree
Ma put a smile on my face
When she said it was for me

One time I got a pair of roller skates
We’d play hockey in the street
With a tree branch and an old tin can
We thought that was pretty neat

The winter I got my very first sled
And down the hill I’d go
Of course we could only do this
If mother nature gave us snow

I remember getting a bat and ball
A baseball hat and glove
I couldn’t wait to go to the field
And play the game I love

Then there was my very first love
A cute little girl in school
But she didn’t like me and often said
Stop acting like a fool

All in all I had a very good youth
Much different from the kids today
I didn’t sit by a computer or watch TV
I would always go out and play

Fresh air and sunshine kept me healthy
Mom had no doctor bills to pay
Happy and healthy, that was me
I remember it as if it was yesterday
