Eternal Quest

Sweet Night approaches;
wound around her flowing
midnight tresses
a galaxy of stars
and nestled at her throat
a luminous scimitar moon.

Her gown of gossamer
chiffon clouds floats
gently on a zephyr breeze
as she waltzes to the
dulcet music of night birds
across the velvet sky.

Her suitor, the Sun
pursues her, eternally
at a distance - just out of reach.
Drawn by her tranquillity
his futile quest continues,
his ardour burning bright.

But she, dark lady,
heedless of his love
glides softly on till morning
when her day-shy stars
and lambent moon
will hide from the world.

On the edge of sleep
she glimpses ahead
a golden burnished globe
but swiftly looks away
her eyes too dazzled
by his fervent fiery light.
