BATTLE OF WORDS

‘CHEATER’ she exclaimed
showing her hand now,
testing his reaction.
He pondered the word,
slightly miffed.

Stroking his chin,
he searched
for a fitting reply.
‘Go for it,’ he thought.
‘DIVORCE’ he responded .

Undaunted, she taunted him .
‘ Right,' she said -'ALIMONY'.
He blanched. Not again!
‘How do you do it?’
(When words alone are not enough
it’s tough!)

She grinned and leant
over to kiss his forehead.
‘Sheer skill, darling.

Great game, Scrabble.
Fifty pence please.’
