Art 'The Poet's Honeymoon'

Is The Poetry Still Mine?
By La Belle Rouge

a year your fluent pen has fallen silent
a year of what?

there are no clues to your life and heart
do you still hurt?

have you moved on to other things?
do they take my place?

will another birthday and another
journey by in silence

“my poetry will forever be yours alone”
you once told me

even after i had all but disappeared
beyond your horizon

is the poetry still mine, all the poetry
you haven’t written?

the poetry that clanks around your soul
a restless ghost in prison

dragging heavy chains of links forged
by “if onlys and what ifs”

is the poetry dead, covered deep in
a smoldering unmarked grave

out of sight, far beyond your grasp
like a lost love?

will you pick up your pen again someday
or do you compose in secret

with pen of pain and black ink of tears
do you still write

the poetry that will always and forever
belong to only me?

the shame comes down to us, you see
poetry that will never be
