My First Night Away From Home

Picture found on Yahoo Search

My mind travels back to about the age of five
mom and dad wanted to go to a square dance
they wanted me to stay with my dad's mother
if I had my say, there would be no chance.

I didn't know her very well, and I wanted to dance
I squalled and bellowed for awhile until grandmother
brought out dolls and all kinds of things to play with
she played on the floor with me like no other.

I loved her from that moment onward
she soon became my dearest trusted friend
I wanted to stay with her every chance I could
I hoped my visits with her would never end.

My first night away from home as a kid
turned out to be one of the best ever wrought
I loved her as long as she lived to the age of ninety
I have never forgotten her or the lessons she taught.
