Forty-eight Years

It has been forty-eight years since I first said I Do
I didn't have any idea, I just wanted to be with you
A sixteen year old girl, I knew so little about life
I knew that I loved you I wanted to be your wife

You told your Dad that you wanted to marry
At seventeen you were as happy as a canary
Was told if you get me you have to keep me
You can't give me back on that you agreed

We have had great mountaintop experiences
Struck by lightening, kept up appearances
Been up the river a time or two
Life has not been boring and that is true

With but one kiss I just want to say
I am back to yesterday smelling a bouquet
You have never in any way been selfish
But always attentive and mannish

We are not the same forth-eight years later
Our love is stronger it keep getting better
We have learned how to bend and blend
I know that you are my greatest friend
