~ Picture Perfect ~

We all have seen the aftermath
Of marriages that fail
What is hidden many times
Would leave us colored pale

Often times there are no signs
Obvious to those outside
The picture looks to most to be
Where a loving home abides

Behind closed doors a different scene
Something else here does reside
Hurtful words and hurtful ways
Yet victims don't confide

Then one day, things escalate
The situation gets out of hand
A victim strikes in own defense
Knowing time for this to end

Revealing wounds kept hidden deep
Now surface with rage its own
Disregarding price to pay
Must leave both hearth and home

No where to turn, but to oneself
Finding strength within the will
Released from bars held captive gone
What eyes cannot see, revealed
