Set Free

My old friend, I long for the day when I can tell you goodbye.
I hope someday beyond the stars, that you will tell me why.
After all we shared, after all the things together we endured.
You felt compelled to tell me nothing, and by your own hand die.

I cursed at you, for what little hope I had you took with you as well.
You left me out entirely, said not a word , gave me not a clue.
You sat with me and shared only idle talk and something cold to drink,
Not one word, not giving me a hint of what you felt you had to do.

You did not have to leave that way, you knew I was there.
You could have told me..did you think that I was not in pain?
Did you think that you were alone with those memories?
It was our souls, not just our clothes that day forever stained.

You took your path, my friend, and I took mine, but still,
We were bound by the fear we shared and on which we fed.
Invincible; the injun and the rabid cur, we could not be killed,.
In that place where we both decided, we were already dead.

I ask for nothing from you, save forgiveness for my anger.
and the way I curse you now and the day I learned you died.
If you are asking me to let you go in peace, dear friend,
The forgiveness you seek is in the tears that fall now from my eyes,

It is my hope that you find you peace among the stars,
I have found me now and l am learning to love and live.
My friend I loved you...now, please, I ask, please go in peace.
.And know in your heart.........I have learned to forgive.
