Now I See

Every morning I awoke to a foggy dawn
A hazy world seen through scar tissue
Blocking the vision I was accustomed to
I stumbled through light and darkness
Still I was thankful to see bits and pieces
That I could assemble into mind pictures
I hoped and prayed for a needed miracle
For my good eye to guide me once again
Then one July morning I received a call
Raising my hopes to heights I couldn't see
Your priceless gift would be a part of me
A new window, a clearer view of the world
Thank you, I whisper many times each day
As I witness the sun rising in the morning
When I gaze at colorful flowers in full bloom
Watching words flow onto a tear stained page
All that is possible since you entered my life
Just for a moment I'd like to see your face
To thank you from the depths of my heart
And let you know of all the beauty I can see
I do see the world differently than most
In gratitude I witness nuances and subtly
My vision is a blessing, a gift, a miracle
Made possible by your precious donation

I dedicate this write to my Cornea donor. Today is the 3rd anniversary of my cornea transplant in my left eye. For over 10 years it has been the eye I have been seeing the world out of. An infection caused a massive scar in my line of vision and I could hardly see out of it. On July 27th 2005 I received my new cornea and after a few months of healing I was able to see even better than before!! I am incredibly grateful for this gift of sight that means so much to me!! Corneas are tissues actually and are one of the most common transplants done. Please if you are not already consider being an Organ & Tissue Donor!! Donation saves and changes lives forever!!
