Death of a Lily

Death of a Lily

I knew you once when I was
an untouched lily, an innocent song
unsure of my words, a sparrow

in search of wings, and you... you
were a chameleon, an unpredictable
shadow that tiptoed in and out

of my life with no regrets, no good-byes
or apologies, and I trusted you
with the naivete' of youth, the reckless

abandon of discovered womanhood
...but you betrayed me, silencing my
soul, withering the lily I was just

becoming, almost destroying all
I had yet to be with no reasons
and no remorse, and I let you live

within the anger of my broken heart,
hate consuming me, stealing my
will, my passion, faith in myself...

I knew you once when I was
an untouched lily but that girl no
longer exists... I am a woman now

...and there is no room for you
here anymore..
