The Daisy Chain

I have returned again to our secret place
on this rain kissed isle of dreams;
To seek again the solace there
midst the tumbling mountain streams.

Those summer days were warm and long
The meadow lush and green;
As time stood still for everything
when we were both thirteen.

The warmth of sunshine bathes the dell
where wild flowers bloom again
I remember then your gift to me
A little daisy chain.

Many years have quickly fled
since fate drove us apart;
but your love with all its innocence
stayed locked within my heart.

I slowly climb the winding road
to the cottage on the hill;
Where I often longed for your return
yet I know you never will.

The old oak door is shuttered now;
But my heart lifts once again,
when I see upon the window sill;
A little daisy chain...........
