I Opened Mine Eyes

Yesterday,
I parked in front of the Super Duper
Wal Mart Super Market
Breathless in anticipation
Of seeing the greeter at the door
Awaiting me
With a shopping cart,
Promising me
That none other compares,
And that I would be
Breathing the exotic spice
Of possibilities

Today,
Out of curiosity,
I drove out behind the Super Duper
Wal Mart Market,

And drove straight back
To the front of the store
Closing mine eyes,
Heaving a sigh of relief,
To be back in front of the store
As a matter of fact,
While trying to keep
The beauty of
Mine illusions intact

But it’s hard,
So hard,
To sleep
When mine eyes insist
On staying open.

Stupid eyes, anyway

Perhaps,

If I took my glasses off…. ?

Oh wait, I know,
I’ll just go on back into Walmart,
A Place of Wonder,
Smile at the greeter,
And buy me a new pair.
