O Sweet Moon

O Sweet Moon

I sit on bayou's bank simply breathing,
Filling senses with baptism of time
Spent collecting memories, and I try
To paint my thoughts upon the still water
Reflections of moon and willow, here where
Past and present meet, where tomorrow waits,
Where the hearts of my people gently sleep
And I weep for words forgotten, dreams lost.

Whispers of ancients softly drift, casting
Distant ripples across my soul, shadows
Of remembrance blur destiny's vision
And you, o sweet moon in the willows, sigh.
You hear, you know, and I beseech you...
Tell them, tell them, I will never forget!
