Tale of a Giant Goldfish

We had to move a distance
and couldn't take his fish,
although it was a tiny one
in a tiny round fish dish.
And so we did the next best thing,
left David's fish with Aunty Trish.

David was sad, he missed his fish.
For news he pestered Aunty Trish.
To protect his heart,
his aunty lied.
How could she tell the little boy
that his fish just up and died?

She told him on the 'phone
his tiny fish was growing.
He was becoming very big,
eating like a pig.
and his double-chin was showing.

He grew so big she put him
in the bath tub for a swim.
But her hubby whined and grizzled,
there was no room left for him.

They placed him in the river
with his friend the Murray cod.
A four year old could not be told
his fish had gone to God.

One day we went to Sea World
to give the kids some fun.
I'd just sat down upon the grass
when David yelled out, 'Mum!'

'They've got my goldfish in the tank',
I thought 'Well here's a lark,
David took my hand and led me to
a monstrous toothy shark.

He was satisfied his fish was safe,
we drove home happily.
In his tiny mind his fish was fine,
Swimming 'round, quite free!
