Bronzed Mockery

Mile Marker MCCCXLVII

Nonce Descort

Screaming injustice while weighted dice toss,
knowing transgressions have hammer and nails.
Victim of passion suffers greatest fall,
caught in the ripples that treason has made:

I cannot help but question why,
a moment seems to satisfy,
love's spoken promise just a lie,
with alibi, with alibi. . . .

Searching for answers in death only find,
deceptive sunshine beginning each day.
Mountains and valleys have nothing to say,
so far to travel too much left behind:

Life such a complicated climb,
success one way of keeping score,
silence the warning heard before,
choice does the crime, choice does the crime. . . .

Vengeance is willing to carry the flame,
throwing sharp shadows at past history.
Recovered ashes concluding the game,
fated reflections of emptiness see:

Nothing but solemn scars remain,
translating brutal shades of grey,
coexisting with clouds and rain,
darkness today, darkness today. . . .

Tragic indulgence continues alone,
helplessly watch while corruption is grown.
Forced to confess what addictions now own,
useless perceptions petrified in stone:

Night reconstructs damned memory,
basking in failure's coldest fame,
complete another circle turned,
bronzed mockery, bronzed mockery.
