Melodies

I once heard you sing
in off-key melodies
and my heart applauded
for such sweet perfection
of words sung in the key of love

I hear you still when the spring lilies bloom, when summer's slowly ending, and when fall breathes of change.  But it is in winter, when cold winds blow and shadows cross a brittle sky, that your song echoes loudest, haunting me.  With bittersweet precision it pierces the soul, its words bleeding into my heart, but I applaud, as I always did, because even in sorrow there is beauty to be found in memories.
