Mirrors of midnight
I look out my window
And don’t like what I see
In fact
It hurt the heart
That beats inside
Of me
I see the homeless
Walking
With nowhere to go
Their clothes,
Are torn and tattered
They have holes,
In both their shoes
I see them as they search
Through the trash cans at night
Looking for a bite to eat
Before they head off
To their cardboard box
For the night
Each day I see more
Than I did the day before
They are not bums
They are humans you see
They cry and bleed
Just like you and me
When will it get better?
When will progress be seen?
When will we start helping
These lost souls
Who roam the streets?
Men, woman, and children
I have seen them all
Whole families
Calling the streets their home
I’ve seen that too
It breaks the heart
That beats inside of you
Why and how did they get there?
What happened in their lives?
That caused them to lose it all
Now they roam the streets
Both day and night
When will the Government See?
The homeless people
On our streets
How can we help other countries?
When we don’t even help our own
How and why does it happen?
That some people
Have no home
How can money be sent
To help a foreign land
When we don’t even,
help our own
Remember
This is supposed to be
The promise land
But so many are hungry
So many go without
So many have nothing
Nothing at all
Not even a place to call
Home
I hope tomorrow
When the sun is about to rise
I will look out my window and see
No more homeless people
Living on our streets
I want to do something
But I can’t do it alone
I need some help
To help these people out
I want them to know
That yes
Some of us care
And that
The sun will shine tomorrow
The rain will stop
And hopefully just hopefully
They will all have a safe
Warm place to call
Home
