a dinner's invitation

deception, it is in the witch's invitation
an arachnid's career of extermination
her salacious. effort-stitched serration
wondrous, winding octagonal creation
darned delicate, silken sown libation
prey's webbed sacrificed solation
uttered upon fang's penetration

siphoned, sung out in demises' prayer
enveloped, still, suspended there
instinct tempted to ruin's lair
brutal death stares
back at her
she affords no care
for if it be not he, it were
then she instead would, his fare
submitting, shrunken to doom's lure

all aimed to prevent her own starvation
surrender to circuitous annihilation
one of them must yield to termination
underestimates her eight-legged incarnation
until finally, his cocooned presentation
proves nature's pulsing hand in destination
this timeless observation, a dinner's invitation

for some reason this phrase brought to mind the line in Mary Howitt's poem,
'Spider and the Fly', from 1821:
'will you walk into my parlor, said the spider to the fly'

a dinner's invitation
creativity5363's challenge
