Tears Of Laughter

Even now it's hard to keep from laughing,
When I remember that fateful day.
Uncle Pete inflated the helium balloons
That carried my dad's favorite chair away.

It was to be a Bar-B-Q Birthday bash
To surprise my favorite Aunt Sue.
The balloons were secured to my dad's chair,
Then without warning--away they flew.

My dad was beside himself , in disbelief.
He yelled ' come back here, you, you.'
He ranted and raved, jumped up and down.
Until we all saw him turn shades of blue.

Gone with the wind was his favorite lawn chair.
Flying high up above the tallest of trees.
With a proud banner of red , yellow and blue.
Just as bright as you please.

The chorus of laughter that suddenly arose
Turned everyone's laughter to tears.
No funnier sight had we ever seen
And remembered all through the years.

I believe my dad laughed the loudest
At the contraption that settled way up there.
A tree-top full of bright colored balloons
And dad's favorite lawn chair.
