I Will Remember

(Canzonetta)

Within the shadows of my mind,
Through corridors dusty and blue,
Back to a time when you and I
Are “we,” and one and one made two.
I linger there, loathe to return
To endless days, nights without you,
The tears so close that my eyes burn;
My Love, I will remember you.

You held me close, kissed me goodbye,
Told me our love would see us through;
I watched you go through tear-filled eyes--
T’would be our last goodbye, I knew.
Over the years, as mem’ries fade,
I still can see you dressed in blue;
With you my place I’d gladly trade,
My Love, I will remember you.

If only you had stayed that day,
But neither of us had a clue
That deep inside my womb there lay
A budding seed planted by you.
He is a man now, twenty-one,
Looks up to one he never knew,
And when I gaze upon our son,
Oh Love, I will remember you!
