Memories of You Delight My Mind

Childhood memories escape me
in a confused forest
of anaesthetic haze.
Though I had known you back then,
pictures were obscured
by looming cumulous formations
blotting out all in their path,
an obscuring ink spill
on blotting paper.

Recent memories of you delight my mind.
How wonderful it is...
to find a lost memory pocket
filled with forgotten treasure,
untainted by pervasive inky blackness.

Blank pages for twenty years
but suddenly you were there again.
Elly, my very beautiful friend
of the softly spoken Germanic accent,
twinkling blue eyes
and beaming smiles,
delicate of complexion and manner,
heart filled with wisdom,
humour, generosity, faith
and an enduring love
for the bossy big man
who was your husband,
reciprocating your adoration.

You taught me so much, sweet Elly.
I loved to spend time with you
and so did my children.
Your home was always
cinnamon and honey scented,
your kitchen always full
of delectable samplings,
your Christmas oozing
with tradition and love.

Your son told me it was a stroke
but I suspected a broken heart,
lingering on without Boris in your home
but always in your heart and mind.

I miss you Elly

A sweet memory
of Elly Szyderski
