Remembering the Days of my Childhood

I remember ~ skipping stones over the water.
Watching the ships come in from the harbour.
Walking through the forest when it rained.
Laying in the meadow and waiting...
Just so I could maybe see a rainbow.
Memories of my childhood ~
Flood my mind.
When I feel my life has been put on hold.
When I think of friends ~ Who found
their pot of gold. Without even looking.

Counting the flowers standing
proudly in their pots...
Outside the kitchen window~
Of the old house I grew up in.
Reaching up high into the sky
wanting to touch the stars.
Closing my eyes just for a second ~
And thinking how grand it would be...
If I could be a princess.
Just for a hour or a day.

Running through the fields
with-out a single care.
Catching bumblebees in jars and
smelling the wild flowers.
Picking a few to put into my hair.
Sharing with friends and pretending
we were real important ladies.
Happy memories ~
Of better days...

Some things you just never forget.
The fresh smell of the bedding after
it has been hanging...On the clothes line.
Crawling into bed after a warm bath
and snuggling in with Teddy.
Who never talked back ~ Even if you
were lying on his arm.
Nice thoughts comforting thoughts.
Remembering the days of my childhood.
