do you have an innie or an outie?

hope is fractious and
ultimately fragile
when applied to a demi-believer
such as I.
goals can be considered
admirable until
they fade from neglect
and just die

grace and candor stumble
when sharing one voice,
they often bleed into one another -
bad vibes.
how one reacts is not always
left up to choice,
often deigned by tenets
to which one subscribes

love and humanity seem destined
to walk together
if truly felt and practiced
in the open and light
when force-fed the result
is not unlike the tug of a tether
or a liturgical collar
that chokes from being too tight

we may search for an epiphany
that flitters on fringes
full of faux fury
and contemptible sound.
tramping through spaces
of infinite vapidness
only to learn most sadly
nowhere can it be found.

flattery and honesty
what strange bedfellows they are
the give and take quotient
can smudge the line
I am what I have been
and you strive to get up to par
this glow of human unit division
makes living somehow divine
