Katrina

America was bleeding from a big hole in her heart
By the storm they called Katrina
Who just ripped her queen apart

She roared across the ocean to burst wild upon the land
She left massive desperation that we could not understand
She decimated families as their homes were blown away
Leaving people tired and hungry, thousands had no place to stay

She separated loved ones, pitted nature against man
Levies weakened through the ages, Lady Orleans could not stand
Yes, she tore apart that city well beloved by one and all
While America stood helpless, we watched proud New Orleans fall

We watched people cling to rooftops underneath those troubled skies
We watched as their possessions in the water floated by
Saw them tired and weak and helpless ,watched while death came to their doors
Caring hearts recoiled in horror surly they could stand no more

Finally the storm was over, once more quiet ruled the land
Then we banded all together offering help to fellow man
Tried to clothe them, feed them, heal them , tried to hold them in our hearts
Young or old it didn't matter, everybody did their part

Three years later , brighter future.. as New Orleans heals and mends
Fish still jumping in her bayous, Madre Gras began again
Now united by their music that has kept New Orleans strong
In one voice , we as a nation will join in and sing along

Dedicated to the hard working people of New Orleans,
Wishing them much sucess in their rebuilding
