Contemplation

In a cardboard box he shelters from the cold
Here on the littered sidewalk where it lays
From here he smells the coffee freshly made
In that old mission just across the way
Tonight he'll go to hear that preacher tell
The age old story of the blessed birth
He can not help but wonder if God Knows
The way some people live here on his earth
Soon he willl drink a cup of Christmas cheer
Then help to sing some carols from the past
The ones he learned when he was just a kid
And think it funny how some songs can last
The comfy coat he wears , a welcome gift
He thanked the pretty lady by the way
He'll curl tonight in blankets that she brought
They were her gift to him this Christmas day.
Right now he is content to watch God's star
Shine down from heaven with it's welcome light
And know that someone up there high above
Looks down to bless him on this cold cold night
Lost in his memories all alone he stands
While silent snowflakes slowly circle round
To cover up the ugly in his world
And bring him Christmas peace
