I May Wait Forever

Like a figure on Keats' Grecian Urn
I may wait forever,
With anticipation's breath still held,
While you, a moonlit god,
Lie just an arm's length away,
Enticing me with your golden smile
And your yet unspoken words of love.

Why should I move closer,
When watching your perfect grace
Turns my desire into flames,
My passion into a blaze.

Why should I touch your skin
With my impatient fingers,
When my imagination,
Unsatisfied and hungry,
Endows you with the perfection
Of beautiful things desired
But not yet enjoyed.

Why should I court love's end,
When I can savor it forever
While I wait in expectation
Of the beauty of our union.
