Bed of Roses

Never thought too much about it
For I never knew the worth
Of the simple little rose bush
I had planted in good earth

I had watered it and pruned it
Since it was a small small twig
Then on every single weekend
Aound it's roots I'd dig

I would fertilize and pamper it
And it seemed just overnight
It paid me back the loving
With a little rosebud white

Then as the years rolled onward
You grew and it did too
Then one day you came to me
And right out of the blue

You said you'd love some of my roses
For your nearing wedding day
When you carefully would tuck them
Into your bride's bouquet

So, when you stood at the altar
Sure it made my old heart glad
For your hand held those lovely roses
Grown and loved by your old dad

I had taken them for granted
Just a way to pass some time
Now those small white roses
Live forever in my mind

For I never knew the worth it seems
Of white roses... thought sublime
Till the picture of you holding them
Was engraved upon my mind.
