Not In Your Image

Did you think, when you were blessed with child
he was yours to have and hold?
Did you believe, after moulding, shaping,
he would do as he was told?
Did you imagine for one minute
freedom might be so attractive?
Was it you who taught him to think for himself
and keep his little mind so active?

Consider this...

Children are a blessed gift
endowed from the Lord above;
yours but for a little while
to care for and to love.
They were made not in your image
but that of our Creator,
given to release, in love
but will return to you,
a little later.
If love they are given,
by love they'll be driven.
