WAYWARD MAN

I'd been wandering in the neighborhood
As I came up to this door...
I knew somehow...that long ago perhaps
At sometime I'd been here before

Just for a fleeting of my mind
Then memory grew very dim
I was just walking all alone
While looking just for him

My hubby had a way of straying
Sometimes get lost for days
Never could quite understand
Didn't know how, he says

Well, I do have a troubled mind
And it sometimes can be slow
But somehow I knew right away
That what this man said was not so

I walked up to the waiting door
I knocked upon the window pane
A pretty little lady came
And then she asked my name

I told her and her face turned red
I did not even understand
She really scared me half to death
And so I turn and ran and ran

I could hear her calling me
As I ran down the road so fast
I'd not turn back for my life
I was running just aghast

Later when I reached my home
Swung open the gate so wide
Closed it in a hurry so
No one else could get inside

Went into my living room
There my husband sat
Said hello and next he said
Well, now, where have you been at

He's just a little farmer boy
And why I picked him I don't know
Cause I was almost 16 years old
Afraid life would pass me by and so...

I just turned my back to him
Made sure he wouldn't see me sad
I've cried a tear or two since then
But he's gone now and I'm glad
