Trapped
Daintily, gracefully through nature's realm
the Butterfly wings its flight.
Its beautiful wing spread of black and gold
glides on the breeze like a kite.
Intricately, delicately the gold stands out
like lips that are pursed in a grin.
Two little eyelets of blue and orange
look out from the darkness within.
Without a care and never a worry
it dances from place to place,
til into the perils of danger and death
it entered my work domain.
It flit from the bench to the table saw,
then dauntless from head to head.
But, oh! rot the luck, in careless flight
it got stuck in a spider web.
It struggled and strove til strength gave out,
then collapsed, spent, in the heat.
Get up brave beauty the spider is coming,
looking for something to eat!
Because there is need, and want, and desire,
and that's how she lives day by day;
there in her beautiful state-of-the-art web
the spider sucked the life out of her prey.
Now, if you think that is the close of the story
you're sadly mistaken, my friend;
cuz that's how some precious things in this life
come to an untimely end.
Who was the last one you held trapped in your clutches,
while he poured out his heart to your needs?
And all the while his life dribbled away,
you sucked it all out with your greed.
