Death in the Grin Room

One day I visited the grin room
The people were sitting and grinning
Whispering funny little things
Bits and pieces that swam in the air
Flowing from ear to ear

I joined the circle of people
And took part in the grinning
It was fun and I enjoyed myself
And we were all just grinning
Having fun with our whispering

One person in the grin room
Then started to grin in pain
For some unknown reason
A sadness had swept over him
And he was the only one
That did not have a grin of fun

The other people in the circle
Had a shot of surprise in their eyes
For today was only a day of fun
And this was a shock to the system
Grins of pain in the grin room
Were definitely not allowed today

The people then left their chairs
And surrounded the gloomy person
Each person held a long black knife
And began to stab the one
The one with no grin of fun

While they calmly stabbed him
Their grins of fun remained
For today was only a day of fun
And their faces were amused
With soft eyes alive and bright

Smooth movements of the blades
Glided through the warm air
And dug deep into the flesh
Warm blood spilt and sprayed
Upon the walls and floor
Until there was no more

The lifeless body fell heavily to the floor
And the people stood and stared
They then wiped the blood off their hands
And returned back to their chairs
While I was paralysed in shock and fear
And desperately tried to keep my grin

They continued their whisperings
Of funny little things that swam in the air
Bits and pieces here and there
Amusing each other with words
While the body laid in a pool of blood

There are days of fun in the grin room
And then there are days of pain
That day was strictly a fun day
And a sudden death will come to you
If you show pain on a fun day.
