Sweet Revenge
There’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you,
oh precious spouse of mine;
but I thought I’d wait just a little while,
and knock out your pompous pride.
I could have told you on the way,
before you spoke to these kind folks,
telling them how that they should dress,
selling them styles of business clothes.
I could have told you when we arrived,
there was an hour before your speech;
but you seized the opportunity,
and about my style of dress you preached.
For years I’ve heard you carry on
about my looks, my habits, my weight.
In silence I bore your ridicule.
Inside I churned and seethed with hate.
At last here’s a golden opportunity
to get some sweet revenge.
When I tell you what I need to say,
you’ll sink, and hurt, and cringe.
You successfully gave your presentation.
The crowd seemed really excited.
You thought you got a good response
on the stupid jokes you recited.
Well, it’s 30 seconds before your final talk
with the boss about your promotion.
About what the people seemed pleased and tickled
you haven’t the slightest notion.
Roars of laughter came from the crowd
when you walked up to speak;
because there’s a split down the back of your pants
and a brown stain on your briefs.

In Creative Writing Class I was given the
first line of this poem. I was to start from
there and continue the story in 200 words.
There’s something I’ve been meaning
to tell you…
