To Mommy with love

My daughter said,
Hey mommy
Come look and see
I have a surprise for you
A gift
From me

I went to her room
To see
The surprise she had
For me

I saw a
Message written on a wall
And my tears
Began to fall

There on her wall
For all to see
Was a message,
She had written
Just to me

It said
I love you mommy
In bright red
I saw the red crayon
There on her bed

The words were enclosed
Inside a giant heart
I felt that message
Deep down in
My heart

I could not be mad
No not at all
Even though
She had written
On her wall

She was proud
As she could be
She had just learned,
to write
And she had
Written to me

I hugged her neck
And kissed her cheek
Told this is the best gift
I have ever received

I found an old frame
I had lying around
I framed that message
As I was proud

Proud of my daughter
That she had learned to write
Proud of the gift
She had given to me
It’s was just an old wall
That now
Was beautiful
To me

She is now grown
And out on her own
With her own family too

However, her room is still here
Inside my home
And when I am feeling sad,
Lonely, and blue
I go to her room

There on her wall
For me to see
Is the gift
She had given me
So many years ago

It still,
brings tears to my eyes
Each time I look
At the gift
My daughter gave to me

For twenty-one years
I have left it there
She was five
When she made it for me
It is a gift
That keeps
Giving to me

A priceless treasure
It is
Worth more than gold to me
The first homemade gift of love
My daughter
Made for me
