Just Myself

In spite of all the pain in my life,
I don't wish to be someone else.
I just want to be me, like God created me.
I love being just myself.

I walk along the new paved street
quite nearly by myself,
because with my arms around my wife
I wished she were someone else.

Ironically, that wish came true;
but it's like it was upside down,
because nothing changed about the one
I had my arms around.

It was 'I' in that picture who changed.
The 'I' became someone else.
And I learned no matter how I wish,
I can only change myself.

Now, I still like me just the way I am.
I don't wish to be someone else.
because in the 14 years that passed,
God made me a better self.

Now, I like you just the way you are.
I don't wish you were someone else.
Because my life is all-about me,
I give to the world, just myself.
