Hail Storm
Hail pelts the Earth, jawbreaker size,
and dances on the lawn next door.
The wind whips and the house shakes.
Lightning rips open the sky.
Shingles fall from the roof of the house.
It thrills me, and I hope to see more.
The wind whips. Mist cools me, as I take in more.
Cars take a beating. Hail increases in size.
The roar surrounds the whole house.
I'm mesmerized as I watch at the door.
Flashes and streaks chase through the sky.
It seems like the whole Earth shakes.
The cool breeze caresses. My body shakes.
Cars move on the freeway no more.
White dots that still speckle the sky
have increased to baseball size.
Loud pops deafen. I retreat closer to the door.
Will it stop before it tears up the house?
Lights go off and on in the house.
The scared world trembles and shakes.
A fool speeds, and slides past the car next door.
He's leaving. He wants no more.
Hail increased to grapefruit size.
Destruction rages from the vicious sky.
Just then all changes in the vindictive sky.
Rain in torrents washes over the house
melting the hail to niggard size.
My excited body still shivers and shakes.
The threatening sky fires its missiles no more.
I am untouched in the open door.
I continue to gaze from my fortress door.
The flag waves toward the sky.
The relieved Earth trembles no more.
Calm takes over the house.
The rain stops. My body no longer shakes.
The world withstood a war this size.
Into the house, I retreat through the open door.
Only mild thunder shakes the sky
of my life, of a size I fear no more.

In a Sestina every sixth line
ends with a word every seventh
line must also end with. Then in
the last three lines they must all
be used again.
