Turkey Day Leftovers

The stomach is full, the belly is bulging,
but still there's room for dessert.
Eat your fill, never gobble your food,
Eat slowly, talk much, and savor each word.

The gathering is great where friends share love,
an abundance of food, and a variety of dishes.
What will we do with the Turkey Day leftovers?
To see it eaten was every cook's wishes.

At special times wishes come true,
and with a group of friends like us,
we each take our share of dishes we liked,
rarely anyone puts up a fuss.

There will be cake and pie for breakfast,
turkey and salad for lunch,
veggies to keep the body functioning,
and cookies and chips for brunch.

The best part of the day was giving of thanks,
and sharing our stories with friends.
There are bits and chips of leftover trivia,
and true friendship that never ends.

This poem is an answer to
George Langley's challenge
to write a poem telling what
will happen to the turkey
leftovers on Thanksgiving
Day, and use 'gobble' in
the body of the poem.
