A Note to Santa

This glistening white evening
Across the fresh snow
I saw little elf prints
Watched as they go

Across to the chimney
Hurrying quick
Carrying toys
That were dropped by St Nick

The children upstairs
They lay sound asleep
As down through the flue pipe
Santa did creep

He’d brought lots of toys
To put under the lights
To bring Christmas joy
And squeals of delight

He drank milk and ate cookies
As he glanced at the note
That Mama in her bathrobe
So carefully wrote

It read : Dear Sweet Santa
When the world goes to bed
I want you to put
Dreams of peace in their heads

So that on Christmas morning
When we all arise
A whole different world
Is in front of our eyes

No need for the soldiers
The sailors the guns
The age of world brotherhood
Will have begun

As for me, Santa
I don’t need a thing
Cause a world that’s at peace
Is the best thing to bring
