Yet Another

Autumn...

that 'season of mists
and mellow fruitfulness,
rolls gently to its close
long before the last trembling leaf
sacrifices itself
on a bitter wintery breeze
and stark branches,
clad in sparkling icicles
glint under scintillating moonbeams.

This too must pass.

Sap, warmed by approaching spring
slowly inches
from frozen earth,
through frozen roots,
beneath frozen bark...
to remind the old tree
that new life
has been permitted once more.

Scarcely before the tree
is permitted to stretch and yawn,
gnarled branches and supple new twigs
clad in bounteous cloaks of green,
subject themselves
to yet another cycle
until...
another trembling leaf...
