YESTERDAY

Looking back to yesterday,
To a simpler, gentler time.
Dreaming scheming kids were we
Trying hard to tow the line.

The many rules and regulations
That were set before us then,
Seem tame by comparison.
When I think what could have been.

The things expected of us were,
Kindness, politeness and honesty.
To always respect our elders,
And to never disagree.

Our parents did know what was best.
Their advice was honored, come what may.
Back then we lived by the golden rule.
How I long for yesterday.
