My life has changed

Life for me
Is not the same
Since I got this disease
Everything has changed

Like a thief in the night
This disease crept in slowly
And took over my mind

It is as if someone came in
And kidnapped my mind
I cannot remember things
From my own life

I must stay calm,
cannot make a scene.
They say I have Alzheimer's,
But, what does that mean

I do not understand
Something is terribly wrong
There is a light on in
The window
However, no one is home
I am here in body
However, my mind
Is gone

I sit and think
However, nothing is there
My mind is blank
I just sit and stare

My memory is gone
My hands
Don’t work as good
As they worked before
Everything about me
Has changed
Since Alzheimer
Enter my minds door

At times I sit
In my chair
And just stare at the floor
My poor mind is blank
Nothing lives there
Anymore

They say, I have a husband
However, I don’t know who
He is
They also tell me
I too have three kids

They are now strangers
To me
I just don’t know them
Anymore
I am sure that this hurts them
Deep down to the core

Some days
I can remember
How I love those days
However, just as fast as
My memory comes
It quickly
Fades away

Memories are locked up
Inside my mind
There kept
All confined

Alzheimer's is stealing
My mind away
Seems I grow worse
Everyday

I now need help
With all that I do
From getting dressed
To tying my shoes

Brushing my hair
Or taking a bath
Yes, I too need help
With that

Everything has changed
And my hearts filled
With fear
My mind is gone
My eyes
Shed tears

All I ask is that
You keep this in mind
Please forgive me,
For the mean things I say.
If I were well,
I would not be this way

Although I can't tell you,
The words just will not come
I am so glad you are here.
However, I know you are hurting,
Cause I see your tears

I know you hate
Seeing me this way
My body is here
However, my mind
Is away

Please love me
As you have always,
Loved me before
Before Alzheimer’s
Knocked on my minds
Door
