WINTER'S SONG

There she stands, naked to the world
Autumn's leaves cascading on the earth
She's singing songs of a lonely winter
Knowing Spring is yet to be rebirthed

She's cold and blowing blizzard winds
Trying to take her limbs closer to be warm
They are frozen solid, as is she herself
She shudders as she thinks of any harm

Watching the little birds in flight
Never staying long, just looking for seed
They stay gone with their little ones
Whom they have nested safely and now feed

Squirrels have also made their nest
Rarely do you see them scamper across the lawn
They have built a warm home for their young
So they are safe and comfy through winter's storms

She shudders as she feels the onslaught
As soon her branches will have snow and frost
Sometimes freezing completely to her core
As she hears her limbs creak, fall, another loss

She has no winter song to sing it seems
Yet she knows this is her time of year
She looks across the fields - emptiness
Trying to sing a gentle song telling of no fear

People rarely seen, as they also hibernate
Tired of raking leaves and such they rest
Waiting for the warming of the earth
Longing for the seasons song they love best

Knowing that Spring cannot be far away
She will know early as she feels earth warming
Leaves will come again and tiny buds of life
Birds will come and spend happy hours longing

For though all creatures love the spring
They also love the seasons yet to come
As each brings with it new lives; new truths
Each having it's own unique, tantalizing song

Naked tree will take a nap for now
There is no place that she can go and hide
But if you listen closely you will hear
From deep inside her trunk, her song - then sigh
