Peaceful !

There are no stately walls or treasured tapestries
within this quiet place I choose to worship

There are no marble pillars or statues of some saint
nor choirs of children clad in pastel robes

No alters or no candlesticks, no minster or priest,
there' s only me and God alone.

Above me stars, a beach beneath my feet
and all around the velvet glory of the lovely night

It seems to me, God whispers in the singing of the wind
his hands caress me with every breeze that blows

I sit and wonder at the shimmering glory of his stars,
feeling humble and small here on this firmament below

The kiss of water on the silver sand tells me the story
of the way he walked the waves and fed the people
with the fishes and the bread

While up above a lonely eagle soars reminding me
of heaven ore my head

Here hours fly like seconds toward dawn when
I must leave to face again realities of life
like war and poverty and strife.

I fill my lungs with perfume of the sea and tuck
deep within my soul a tiny sliver of this perfect peace,

Sustenance to last through endless days to come
when peace is very hard to find here in this troubled world
