I CALLED HER MAMA

When I look back on time I realize
I sure have lived a lot of years
What lessons and who taught them well
Who helped to handle all my fears
I had many people who came in and out my life
I have been the mother of 4; for two I was a wife
Mama, Daddy, Brother made up our family
Many others out of state that we rarely got to see.
Each person who passes through our days
Influnces us in some remembered ways
Looking back, how could I possibly pick one
But in contemplation, that is what I've done
Mama ... can you hear me, this is one for you
For all you ever did on earth and continue to do
I realize now that I am older how you impressed
How you taught me right from wrong and what was happiness
You did your best to steer me through the courses of my life
While I was a little child until I was one day a wife
You taught me as a Mama should, life is not a game
That what you give in life may not come back the same
Respect and love for others; kindness and humility
So many things I just can't count..you humbled me
Taught me to be fair and not to lose my pride
Though you knew I had days I just died inside
You taught me there's a future ...even if your alone
That it is possible to be just self and have a home
That there were worse things in life than being lonely
You showed me that as you lived 25 years..you only
You taught me about Jesus from just a tiny girl
You always showed me I had a place within this big world
You taught me to crochet and so many other things
I do know that you taught me, that our hearts have wings
You've been gone a long time now and yet it seems each day
I think of you; that I should call; for it is in my heart you stay
'I don't know what I would do without you honey' you said
As you lay there weeks on what would be your death bed
Strange, Mama, there came a time in life for me
I said the same things to my daughters ... so now I see
When you went through the veil, I lost my anchor
So when I speak of who inspired me..it has to be my Mother.
