CLOSING THE BOOK
I opened up the book of life, a bookmark rests upon a page, the day we met and fell in love, and upon that page I stayed.|
I took an old ink fountain pen, and signed my name by your's, just to make damn certain you're mine forevermore.
I took this book of life I'd found and wrapped it in golden ribbons, a sash to keep this love secure, and keep out all misgivings.
A long time has passed since the book of life I opened, the sash was dusty, slightly tore, the bookmark resting safely on the page where we'd signed before.
Time will not be binded, even if held by a booked marked page, covered in a million ribbons, no matter how secure and safe.
A few more chapters followed, the one where you left me with a scarred heart , a tear fell and left a stain, where once I'd signed my mark.
Our signatures merged into one, the ink bled to form a face, the image of my long lost love, vanished with no trace.
Why do eyes betray the heart by revealing how deep hurt goes? whenever broken it always seems in seconds tears flow.
That aching in the stomach, that pain when you can't eat, forever tortured and bewildered by the answers that you seek.
I take the knife that cut the cake, that once a bride and groom adorned, it's time to finally cut you loose, close the book once and for all
