Somewhere In Time

When I relate something to someone,
Maybe something my child has said,
I always begin with “I’ll never forget”.
Then one day it popped into my head…
Memories are not set in stone.
You can have them one day,
The next day they are gone.
Many things can happen
to remove them from your mind.
Alzheimers, a stroke, amnesia…
Can cause one to seek and never find
A name, a smile, a face of a loved one dear.
How sad to think you can’t remember
That your child’s birthday is in November,
Or when he lost his first tooth
And placed it under his pillow..
How sad to look at family photos
And not know who they are,
Not even your beautiful daughter
Posing under your Weeping Willow.
I have my “Senior Moments”
discarding them with a smile and joking comment
Secretly knowing that one day
My memories could fade from my mind
Leaving me suspended somewhere in time.
