Yesterday's Bloom

'So prove you're worthy!' said a judge;
she heard it loud and clear.
It seemed to be a challenge made
that fell on deafened ear.
A precious rose, she'd come to bud
and dared to face the world;
but, when the garden club arrived,
her petals dried and curled.
Her mistress gently tended her
throughout her growing phase,
but roses only last so long---
and she'd bloomed many days.
A beauty of a rose was she
although her life was brief.
The garden club did nix her prize,
but she just turned a leaf.
For each, there is a time to bloom,
a time to live and die;
what's worthy is the effort made
to give your best a try.
