Fearful Mystery

I do not know if life goes on
when the breath of life has gone.

I do not know where this breath goes.
For this blithe spirit never shows.
Perhaps it's where the North wind blows
perhaps it's where the Ocean flows.
Perhaps someone from Heaven knows.

For with such fear I'm still undone
I fear the death of anyone.

Some say they know beyond a doubt
it's all a circle in and out.
Or something nearly roundabout.
No matter what, they have no doubt
in everything they know about.

Have they yet felt that cold, cold breath
summoning it's master, Death?

Where's the proof for what's in store?
Why don't I remember more
if I have ever lived before?
Confusing and conflicting lore
I can't imagine anymore.

It's only curiosity
for death's a fearful mystery.

sorry if this offends...but a little note behind this.....I have read alot on many subjects...quite an eclectic collection....many of these books speak of reincarnation and that sort of bothers me...which is what this piece is all about...reasonable doubt........ (what in tar-nation is reincarnation? lol) and thusly this poem was born.......
