Pablo Says

Allow me to introduce you to Pablo
He's a very clever and funny little boy
One of the most vocal dogs I have known
He'll tell you of his anger, fear and joy

There is a code within his array of noises
I have learned to decipher it over the years
Persistent barking with hair standing on end
Means: “possible stranger danger, ease my fears!”

An abrupt bark followed by long silent pause
While staring down at the window sill below
Means: “I cannot reach my friend “queaker”.
I command that you come and get it right now!”

Then there’s the persistent barking at an object
Could be a chair, the couch or even the pet gate
Means: “I am too small to get where I want to be.
Where are my carpeted stairs? Move this gate!”

A high pitched whine kind of like a tortured cat
Paired with climbing up my leg, barking in between
Means: “I need something from you right this moment!
Throw my toy! Give me a carrot! I need to be seen!”

Then there’s his tail always wagging back and forth
Moving faster whenever he sees me coming near
That tells me that he loves me more than words can
He will always be the evil little troll that I hold dear!
