MY PROMISE

Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye
serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye
may stand blameless before God at the last day.
Doctrine & Covenants 4:2

I promised I’d go where you sent me,
no mountain would prove too high.
I would never look back in sorrow
I would keep reaching up for the sky.

But Father, sometimes it’s not easy,
for I miss the home of my birth.
I miss seeing all of my children,
yet I know it will all prove it’s worth.

So if I should sometimes have sorrow,
forgive me and help me to see,
that this life is just a brief moment,
my reward will be eternity.

I must journey along teaching others,
helping souls who are wandering alone.
And when I’ve completed this mission,
‘tis then, you will let me go home.

I promised I’d go where you sent me,
no mountain would prove too high.
I would never look back in sorrow
I would keep reaching up for the sky.
